Cherries youth team set to shave heads for charity

AFC Bournemouth's youth team are defying the stereotype of modern footballers by shaving their heads to raise money for EB charity DEBRA, after meeting inspirational local youngster Mason White.

Joe Roach, Carl Fletcher and the youth team met five-year-old Mason, who suffers from the uncurable skin condition epidermolysis bullosa (EB), at the end of August and were so moved with his plight that they decided to shave their heads to raise awareness and funds.

EB affects around 5,000 people in the UK and means that sufferers are missing the important sticky layer of protein, collagen seven, that binds layers of skin together and as a result, Mason has his skin bandaged up to prevent blistering caused by even the slightest of knocks.

New WIBN Tool Box

September always has a 'new term' feel to it and just as schoolchildren gather and make new friends, plenty of fresh faces were welcomed at our Portsmouth local business network meeting.

With 21 in the room, Chair Carol McFadden made sure the one minute slots did not overrun, before online marketeer and Chair of Southampton City and Bournemouth groups, Joannah Bishop, gave a 10-minute presentation on the new WIBN Tool Box.

Currently being rolled out across the groups, it has been designed to help us make the most out of our membership, and information will be posted on the regional website once Jo has visited all the groups.

WIBN Dorset Regional – Indoor garden party!

Tuesday 12th August, Christchurch

The weather might have kept the meeting inside, but there was plenty of sunshine in the room! The atmosphere during the informal networking was buzzing, with more than 60 members and visitors catching up over a refreshing glass of Pimms.

Jacqui Frampton somehow got us all seated on time, and kept the packed agenda running to schedule ably assisted by the hosts on each table. After our one minute introductions around the table – a great mix of talents and expertise – we heard from the first speaker:

Stewart Homer of Homer & Pardy Developments spoke about investing in property, and building an impressive portfolio (his own worth a cool £4 million). Stewart firmly believe Property remains an excellent investment for the long term and provides an option for an alternative income stream, pension support and inheritance opportunity for the next generation.

Social Networking - The Boardroom Blog

Given that I yawned ceaselessly throughout the drive to the Boardroom Network meeting this month, I thought I'd eavesdrop on the many conversations being had over coffee as the event was winding up to start. Yes, I was right! From the outset it was split 50-50 between those greeting each other to talk genuine business and those mutually lamenting the early start. Does anyone really enjoy a 5.30am alarm?!

Think of it this way: there are two silver linings to the dark cloud of rolling out of a warm bed at an unearthly hour. One is that, with arguably a few exceptions, it takes a special effort. And anyone who makes a special effort deserves a special reward – I reckon TBN delivers that. The second is that, from my observation at least, it was already light before I had to leave the house. Somehow that not only makes it easier, but makes it feel right too. Bring on the summer!
