Operation Elliot receives donation from business club

A little boy who needs over £66,000 for an operation has received £3,500 from the BC Club – a group of businessmen from Bournemouth and surrounding areas.

Elliot Gower, aged six, has cerebral palsy and severe Haemophilia A and the operation is potentially life-changing.

The Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy is a huge spinal procedure which aims to give him much more freedom of movement, so he will be able to do more of the things his friends can.

Elliot, who lives in Southbourne, Bournemouth, with his parents, Morwenna and James, and siblings Lucas and Jacelyn, is already undergoing ‘pre-hab’ in preparation for the operation at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

But he needs to raise a total of £66,300 and when the BC Club heard about his situation they raised their contribution at one of their regular events.

The club was founded for businessmen from the Bournemouth, Poole and Southampton areas to get together, enjoy themselves and raise money for charity.

The money raised for ‘Operation Elliot’ was boosted by £875 in gift aid.

It was the club’s first get-together of 2014 and the money was collected by donations and games.

There was also a donation from the Print Rooms in Bournemouth where the event was held.

Elliot’s dad James said: “We want to say an enormous thank you to the BC Club for the donation.

“We’ve been supported by the whole community and we couldn’t have got where we are without them.”

Steve Wells, from DWP Housing Partnership, who is one of the club’s founders, said: “We hold about four events a year and pick a charity or cause to support.

“When we heard about Elliot we all wanted to help and were pleased we could give him some money towards the target.

“We had 35 members at the event which was out highest number yet.”

Last year the BC Club raised over £30,000 for charity.
