What is it like working at Bickerley Green?

1. What is it like working at Bickerley Green?

‘Team Bickerley’ is always focussed in supporting the lives of the ‘Residents’ that live here, this is their home, and how we play that important role of maximising their aspirations and wishes. Yes, it is a demanding job, but very rewarding in knowing that we make a difference.

The team all agree and share the same values of our service which is incredibly valuable.

2. What would you say to anyone who was interested in working in care?

There are a number of important elements in the promotion of dignity at Bickerley Green.

These include; recruiting staff with the right attitude, training staff to understand and promote dignity in all aspects of their work, person centred care plans, and the day to day supervision of the care home by the Registered Manager and senior staff. So, what is the right attitude? To me this means, staff who want to be there, want to enable people to maintain their skills and who regard the people they support as equal members of society.

This enables us to meet both needs and preferences, a need being something we have to do and a preference being the way that the person wishes us to do that thing. Person centred care is focussed on meeting the needs of the person, rather than “fitting” them into the routine of the care home.

3. What sort of roles do you currently have available at Bickerley Green?

We are currently recruiting for permanent and casual roles in the home. Roles include Nurses, Care Assistants, Laundry Assistants, Kitchen Assistants, Cooks, and Domestic Assistants. For more information on the opportunities we have on offer and how to apply, please look at our Adult Services Career webpages.

4. How long have you worked at Bickerley Green and how has it changed since you’ve been working there?

I have been the Registered Manager for Bickerley Green Nursing Home since 2010, but have worked for Hampshire County Council for 24 years.

We had our last CQC Inspection on the 3 rd February 2017 – Rated as ‘GOOD’.

I feel this reflects the great team working at Bickerley Green as this is down to everyone that works in our home, we all play an important part of making a difference for the residents and take pride in what we achieve together.

5. What do you like to do in your spare time?

I enjoy going out on our Boat called ‘Scotch Mist’ on my weekends and holidays, which is moored in Poole Harbour.

I thoroughly enjoy going with my husband on some weekends ‘Enduro Motor Cross Biking’.
