Report Shows Young People’s Views on Health and Social Care

This week Bournemouth LINks, the organisation that aims to inspire positive change to local health and social care, launched a report based on over three consecutive years’ worth of research into young people’s attitudes to the provision of health and social care services. The LINk has empowered Bournemouth’s young people to ask each other searching questions about Health & Social Care Services – then Speak Out about the results.

The report, entitled “A Problem Has To Fit In One Box”, was launched on 20th March in Bournemouth and was well attended from stakeholders, local Councillors and representatives from the business community. The report has been collated by LINks following collaboration with the “Sussed Advisory Project”, Youth clubs in Boscombe and Pokesdown, as well as The Bournemouth Integrated Youth Service, and covers issues that affect every young person, including alcohol and drug use, sexuality, pregnancy, peer pressure, bullying and mental health.

Following the recent opening of its third restaurant in December 2012, Koh Thai Tapas, the UK's most recent and unique dining experience, has commenced building work on its fourth site in the historical city of Bath. The restaurant is due to open in early March and will bring the growing chain's site tally to four. As part of the group's on-going national expansion plan, other locations also being considered at present are Brighton, Southampton, Bristol, Winchester and Oxford, as the chain aims to open another 2-5 restaurants

Teacher's Surprise Email from Canadian Paralympic Committee

Britain's Olympic legacy is certainly real at Talbot Heath School when textiles teacher, Mrs Irvine received a surprise email from the Canadian Paralympic Committee recently. The threads of the story were sewn over a year ago, when the Parents Stitching Group made a selection of Banners and Pendants to be presented to the athletes of the London 2012 Olympic Games as part of the Quilts4London initiative. The banners were stitched with many different images using applique, hand and machine embroidery, fabric paint and embellishments; all representing the English way of life. Before the Olympic Games opened, the banners and pendants were sent off to London, so they could be distributed to the athletes. Many from the school community watched the Olympics and felt very proud of how the Games were delivered, and hoped that the pendants had been well received. On opening her emails on the 17th of January, Mrs Irvine received a surprise message from the Canadian Paralympic Committee thanking the TH "stitchers" for their banners.
