Paloma Faith, Level 42 and Peter Andre confirmed for Wave 105 Live!

Paloma Faith has already had a great start to 2014 with the release of her new hit single ‘Can't Rely on You’, which was produced by Pharrell Williams. Now the platinum-selling artist has announced she is set to return Wave 105 Live! 2014.

Paloma was just one of the many artists to perform to a sell-out audience at the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) last year, now she will take centre stage again on Saturday May 31.

Navitus Bay formalises commitment to working with local port

Wind park developer and ports sign ‘memoranda of understanding’

Navitus Bay Development Ltd (NBDL) has today officially entered into ‘memoranda of understanding’ (MOU) with three local ports – Poole, Yarmouth and Portland.

These formal agreements commit the developer to undertaking studies with the ports that will explore how their facilities could be best used in both the construction and operation & maintenance (O&M) phases of the wind park.

Navitus Bay first shortlisted the three local ports to host the wind park’s O&M functions in summer 2013. This latest development formalises the developer’s commitment to using local facilities.

South coast residents named local heroes

Three south coast residents have been awarded ‘local heroes’ in the 2013 Churchill Awards founded by Churchill Retirement Living which recognises excellence amongst the over 65s.

The three winners of the Wave 105 local hero award as voted for by the radio station’s listeners were Ted Taylor, Gillian Watts and Ron Halls. They received their awards at a private lunch in London on Thursday March 20.

Ted Taylor, 76 was acknowledged for his achievements in supporting local people in the West Howe and Kinson area of Bournemouth. He is a familiar face locally and since the 1960’s has championed youth and community work as well as inspired others to pursue work voluntarily or professionally.

Manchester R&B singer Wayne Fontana, famed for such hits as Pamela Pamela and Hello Josephine, has been forced to pull out of the 2014 Solid Silver 60s Tour, coming to the Bournemouth Pavilion Wed 30 April, due to ill health.

His illness is considered to be serious and regrettably this means that Wayne will not be appearing on the up-and-coming Solid Silver 60s Tour 2014.

Dorset-based vineyard and winery Furleigh Estate, has introduced its multi-award-winning wine to the World Duty Free shops at Gatwick, Heathrow, Southampton and Jersey airports and the Eurotunnel.

The shops stock the Estate’s new 2010 release of Blanc de Noirs, a successor to its International Wine Challenge gold medal and trophy winner Classic Cuvee 2009.

Flood issues have swept the nation for the last five months, plunging the country into chaos. As people fight to protect their assets and decontaminate their homes from dirty floodwaters, the nation has rallied together to raise funds.

Charities such as Flood Wings, The Red Cross and have raised thousands of pounds in funds that have been distributed throughout the UK to flood victims.

Some of the worst effected areas are Somerset and South West Dorset. Residents feel stranded as they continue to battle the floodwaters that do not appear to be reseeding. The majority of victims are only armed with sandbags and brooms that have been used to sweep surface water from homes.

A team of young entrepreneurs from Parkstone Grammar School have been honoured with a communications award from the prestigious sandbanks-based PR agency Liz Lean PR (LLPR).

The award was one of four titles scooped up by the 10 strong group of talented girls from team ‘Zimu’ at the Enterprise Challenge Awards 2013.

Offering students the experience of running a small business, the Enterprise Challenge requires teams of young people to examine sales, marketing and production methods to successfully sell a product of their choice.
