Parents Stitching Group at Talbot Heath

Teacher's Surprise Email from Canadian Paralympic Committee

Britain's Olympic legacy is certainly real at Talbot Heath School when textiles teacher, Mrs Irvine received a surprise email from the Canadian Paralympic Committee recently. The threads of the story were sewn over a year ago, when the Parents Stitching Group made a selection of Banners and Pendants to be presented to the athletes of the London 2012 Olympic Games as part of the Quilts4London initiative. The banners were stitched with many different images using applique, hand and machine embroidery, fabric paint and embellishments; all representing the English way of life. Before the Olympic Games opened, the banners and pendants were sent off to London, so they could be distributed to the athletes. Many from the school community watched the Olympics and felt very proud of how the Games were delivered, and hoped that the pendants had been well received. On opening her emails on the 17th of January, Mrs Irvine received a surprise message from the Canadian Paralympic Committee thanking the TH "stitchers" for their banners.

Cllr Filer and Jeff Lester in the Mega Van

Mega Van Shows Bournemouth Council Big Saving Potential

Bournemouth Borough Council continues to lead the way in greener transport, with the latest trial of the electric Mega Van, supplied from locally based distributor Vehicle Strategies, Dorset.

Councillor Michael Filer, Cabinet lead for Transport, shown in the photo attached, "We are currently trialling electric vehicles as one of the options for reducing CO2 levels and introducing economies to our budgets. We will be looking at all the aspects in relation to electronic vehicle usage as well as considering other alternatives to our existing fleet."

Says Jeff Lester, "Our vehicles are public and business friendly, they don't omit any gases, don't make a noise and don't distract the public, and don't cost as much as you might think, thus making them just perfect for the busy tourist towns here on the South Coast.
