Buckholme’s military fundraising for forces

Pupils and teachers at Poole’s Buckholme Towers School and Nursery donned their best camouflage and were put through their paces in a Camo Day to raise funds for military charity SSAFA on Friday June 20.

Camo Day is a worldwide non-uniform event raising funds and awareness for the charity which provides practical support and assistance to servicemen and women, veterans, and the families of both.

The pupils listened to a special headmaster’s assembly about the history of SSAFA and the role of the forces in Britain today. Each year group then took part in a boot camp style assault course organised by Blast Sport.

A cultural experience for Buckholme pupils

Pupils at Buckholme Towers School and Nursery in Lower Parkstone viewed a special one off performance of A Fair Trade and Rights Respecting Story to learn about the rights of children living in India.

Children from the independent school on Commercial Road visited the neighbouring Parkstone United Reformed Church to watch the show, quiz the actors, learn how to Bhangra dance and be educated about fair trade.

World Book Day at Buckholme Towers School

Happy Bottom author visited Buckholme Towers School for World Book Day

To coincide with World Book Day on Thursday March 6, Heather Chamberlain author of children’s book Major Payne in Happy Bottom: Fowl Deeds visited pupils at Buckholme Towers School and Nursery.

Heather hosted storytelling workshops for each year group including reception and nursery as well as giving tips on creative writing.

Iain Robertson, headmaster at Buckholme Towers School, said: “Heather’s books are wonderfully entertaining for children and the pupils gained valuable insight into techniques for creative writing.”
