Schools in Bournemouth to Help Hedgehogs Across Dorset

The UK’s hedgehog population is thought to have fallen by 30% since 2003 to less than 1 million* from a whopping 36 million in the 1950’s. Hedgehogs are naturally nocturnal animals, but the lack of green landscapes available to them has meant they now have to emerge during the daytime to forage for food.

Yet, according to a recent survey by nature champion and outdoor holiday specialist, Camping in the Forest, Shockingly nearly half (49%) of people in the South East now see hedgehogs in the wild less than once a year, or admit they have never seen one in its natural environment. Despite this, 48% of us do nothing to help preserve their numbers, because we either don’t have time, or wouldn’t know where to start.
